Step Inside My Mind (The Starting Point)

So … I used to do a fair bit of free writing.  I’d just sit in front of my computer, write my thoughts on a particular topic, and just go until I had nothing left to say.  I pretty much got through paper writing at school that way.  I always hated research and I always hated editing.  It’s been years since I’ve been able to really sit down and just write but when I decided to create a homepage that would let people get to know me better … I thought that would be the perfect time to start up again.

There’s no real plan with this blog, no definitive format, and no publishing schedule.  The blog will take multiple forms but here’s a brief rundown:

Here’s The Thing: Essentially a straight editorial, this is me responding to popular topics on social media, the news, and so on and so forth.  Those topics where I might feel like everybody’s discussing it, but there’s that one obvious thing that makes me go “Ok wait” and my brain just gets a bit stuck on it.

Reel Geeks: I co-host a podcast called Reel Geeks (available on your favorite podcast app) and since we mostly focus on older films on the show, I thought it might be an idea to try and do printed content around newer films.  Less standard review and more my thoughts and experiences after seeing a film in theater as well as thoughts from time to time on news in Hollywood.  Hopefully I can get my co-host, Crash Anne Burn, to contribute content here from time to time as well.

Musings of a Middle Aged Mad Man: This’ll be the more philosophical stuff.  Musings on life, the universe, and everything in it.  Every once in a blue moon my brain likes to wax poetic, and those thoughts need to go somewhere.

My So Called Life: A continuation of a series I was doing on TikTok, this is more dedicated to the little things that fascinate me.  Nothing Earth shattering, more those little moments where you stop, shake your head and think “Well … so that happened.”

Untitled Advice Column: This last one, I have no idea if this will ever actually be a thing, but I’d love to do an advice column.  I’m not going to pretend I’m the world’s greatest expert in, well, anything, but if you need an objective, considered, and well thought opinion on an issue you’re having, I’d love to take a shot at helping you out.  If that interests you, please send your story to themaritimelord@gmail.com with “UAC Question” in the subject and I’ll happily do my best to help you out.
